Travel is a huge part of what I do, though I don't do it as much as I'd like.  The challenge of travel photography is that you may only have a week; a day; an hour at a location.  Think the weather will cooperate with you during that interval?  How about the crowds?  The wildlife?  Maybe a close-up shot is all you can get, because the panorama in your mind just won't work out.
Travel photography doesn't happen in optimal conditions, but it's those less-than-ideal circumstances that make the story unique.  The joy is telling it.  Showing it.

No matter how much time you may have to spend at Canyonlands Nation Park in Utah, the one spot you cannot miss is its crown jewel Mesa Arch

A visit to Balcony House is one of the most adventurous tours in Colorado's Mesa Verde National Park. A hundred foot staircase into the canyon; a 30-foot ladder climb into the alcove; a twelve-foot scurry through an 18-inch-wide tunnel... Soooooooo worth it! This intimate, ranger led tour is the only way into this remarkable site.

For me, the greatest joys of touring the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park is getting to actually walk through and amongst them. Kivas were ceremonial rooms that developed from Ancestral Puebloan pithouses. The interior of this kiva at SpruceTree House was possibly the most magical and mysterious place I had the privilege to visit in the park.

Standing in the west-side room block – facing north-east, across the western plaza – this view of Pueblo Bonito in New Mexico, highlights one of the more unique elements of Chacoan architecture. Much smaller than the great kivas found throughout the park, several kivas like this one are found housed within the square rooms of Chaco Canyon’s great houses.

The Na’ili’ili-Haele trail Bamboo Forest really is pretty much exactly that: a huge forest of staggering bamboo trees! This is what the Road To Hana is all about: scenic stops you can enjoy the for 5 minutes or 5 hours.

This view of Ka Lu'u o ka O'o Cinder Cone in Haleakala Crater could easily have been mistaken for a lunar landscape - or the land of Mordor - if not for the presence of green on the far rim. Volcanic landscapes must be some of the most fractured, harsh, and majestic environments in nature.

Waiting at my safety stop before heading back to the surface at Molokini Crater , I snapped this shot of one of my dive companions ascending up our anchor chain.

One of my favourite watering holes in Hopkins, Belize. Between the beach, the beers, and the jerk shrimp... Ella's Cool Spot really is my happy place!

Under the dense canopy of the this Belizian cacao grove there's not even enough room to stand up straight. It's like being inside a room: very quiet and still. The humid air is heavy under the low ceiling of leaves....

The Serpon Sugar Mill was abandoned by 1910, when more profitable sugar cane operations were established in other districts of Belize. It never ceases to amaze me how the jungle reclaims its territory. Everywhere roots, and flywheels, and tree trunks, and cogs are intertwined.
